How To Get Your Small Local Business On Google Maps
Ok, far too many small businesses are spending far too much time on social media and then wondering why real buyers can find you on GOOGLE!
If your business isn’t showing up on Google Maps, that means your business is a nothing burger to the very people who are out there looking for whatever your business offers.
They will find your competitors. And that ain’t cool. Because you deserve a steady flow of perfect clients that find YOU through a Google search.
And no, this isn’t one of those “you should be doing everything right now” kind of blog posts. I’m a fan of the work smarter not harder approach.
This is just the simple, non-tech guide for getting your biz on the map, QUITE LITERALLY! (cuz it really needs to be there!)
Whether you’re a new coach, wellness pro, or service-based babe figuring it out as you go, I’ve got you.
My mission is to get your business findable, clickable and client-bookable on Google Maps in four easy peasy lemon-squeezy steps.
Step 1: Claim Your Google Business Profile
This is your official entry ticket onto Google Maps and awesome because it’s 100% free.
Here’s exactly what to do:
Go to google.com/business
Click “Add your business”
Choose your biz name, category (like “nutritionist” or “life coach”), and whether you have a physical location
Add your contact details, website and the areas you serve
IMPORTANT TIP* Are you clients online or locally but don’t have a storefront? No biggie fry. Just choose “service-area business” and list your city or region. Google will understand.
If you aren’t sure if you’ve claimed your business profile I can do a quick website audit and let you know! This is perfect if you have no idea what you’re doing, feeling stuck or second-guessing your setup.
Step 2: Fill Out ALL the Info (Yup, ALL OF IT)
This is not the time to half-ass your profile. You wanna be the full snack and the main course when someone Googles your services.
You gotta include:
A warm, keyword-rich biz description (think: “virtual doula in Vancouver” or “breathwork coach for new moms in Yaletown”)
Your hours, phone, email, and website
Photos of your face, workspace or brand - trust me, they matter! Be honest and just do whatever Google says.

Step 3: Get Yourself Some Glowing Reviews
Reviews ABSOLUTE GOLD for local SEO and are the fast track to Google trust and client confidence.
Here’s how to get Google reviews:
Send a friendly “Hey, would you mind?” email to a few past clients or anyone you’ve helped.
Drop your Google review link (you’ll find it in your GBP dashboard)
Ask them to mention your service and your location, like “best massage therapist in Vancouver”
Important tip! When I send a client a final invoice, I include a link and ask for a Google Review - if you gave awesome service, most people will gladly give you one!
Step 4: Keep It Fresh & Consistent
Google loves an active profile. Unlike social media, you don’t have to post 2-3 times a day. Heck, you don’t even have to post once a day. Weekly updates are actually PERFECT.
Try updating weekly with:
A photo (of you, your space or even your journal + coffee setup - whatever conveys your brand feel.
A client win or testimonial
A quick post: a tip, reminder or offer
A link to your latest visibility-boosting blog

My Last 2 Cents: You Deserve to Be Found
This visibility thing? It’s not about being the loudest or most perfect. It ain’t about the proper use of white space and beautiful infographics.
It’s about showing up - clearly, confidently and consistently - so your ideal clients can say: “Omg, THIS is who I’ve been looking for.”
